What is a Radio?

This website is about satellite radio - a basic guide to radios and satelite radio in the UK.

The Radio is earliest and most common wireless communication device used in the world, playing a major role in society in the modern world.

We find them in every corner of the world, used by people from all walks of life, in businesses, homes, transport – everywhere. In fact, this simple wireless transmitter is at the core of today’s latest gadgets, from mobile phones, televisions and wireless LAN’s to pagers, microwaves and baby monitors.

There are thousands of wireless technology devices out there, all basically using radio waves to transmit data and communicate. These waves are capable of sending out information – music, news, conversations, photos and so on – through the air, through great distances, invisibly and virtually undetectable to humans.
